HE already has a Big Apple trip planned, but Tony Abbott is ruling out heading to New York a day early to attend a UN climate change summit.
The Prime Minister will be in town next Wednesday and Thursday to sit down with US President Barack Obama and others for special UN talks on the escalating situation in Iraq.
However he is missing a UN climate summit, hosted by Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, on Tuesday September 23.
Instead Foreign Minister Julie Bishop will attend in his place, alongside more than 120 world leaders.
European Union Climate Commissioner Connie Hedegaard said it was a pity that the Australian Prime Minister would not be attending the one-day summit.
When asked on ABC Radio if it showed Australia was out of step with the rest of the world on climate action, she said it was for Australians to “judge”.
