A new start for church

RECONCILIATION and unity are the basis of a new start as the Methodist Church celebrates 50 years of independent existence in the country, says the Taukei Nawaivuvu Ratu Jone Matanababa.

Speaking at the church celebrations in Nasoso near Naduri Village, Ratu Jone reminded people that they must put to rest the past and start a new journey.

Ratu Jone told members who turned up at the celebration that the word jubilee meant freedom to the Israelites.

“It means the return of their freedom and whatever is rightfully theirs,” he said.

“It also denotes a fresh start and a new beginning and that is what the Methodist Church and the rest of the people around the country needs.

“We have dwelt so much on the past that we have forgotten how freedom and a new life feels like.”

Ratu Jone said the 50th anniversary celebrations also marked the church’s freedom from foreign leadership.
