A new season

Welcome back AIBA Boxing fans. This week FABA has some announcements to make regarding the resumption of the Summer Series bouts and FABA’s AGM and elections of the executive for the next 12 months.

Summer series

First, all fighters, coaches and fight fans, please be advised that the “Summer Series” will resume at the National Fitness Center on Saturday, February 13, at 4pm.

FABA apologises for the late notice, however, scheduling conflicts and various other factors have dictated this turn of events.

Of interest, the Fiji team to travel to China at the end of March will be fighting at the event in an effort to gauge how preparations are shaping up at the current training camp and to see what sort of form the boys are in.

Take note that the boys will be going all out to put their new skills into practice.

So, if you want to see for yourself how our team is shaping up, get along next week and cheer them (or their adversaries) on.

Also, in an effort to minimise the number of athletes that turn up and are unable to get fights, I’d like to take this opportunity to encourage all clubs out there to communicate with each other this week to make sure as many of their boys as possible are matched up ahead of time.

Please ensure that, as much as possible, any matches agreed to beforehand are between boys of the same level and experience.

Our referees will be policing this area very closely.

FABA AGM and elections

Next, FABA’s AGM and executive elections will take place on April 30, 2016, at FASANOC headquarters, Suva.

The current board hereby encourages all FABA members to turn up and participate, vote and have their say in how the sport is governed and the direction it will take in the coming year.

The last 12 months have simultaneously been very challenging and rewarding for the current board and it is eager for the rest of the AIBA Boxing community to have its say on what has happened over the last 12 months and more importantly, what should happen over the next 12 months.

Be advised that anyone that wishes to stand for election at the AGM must forward their name for consideration to the FABA secretary by March 28, 2016 at: leduaasinate@gmail.com.

The reason for this deadline is that all nominees must be forwarded to AIBA headquarters in Lausanne Switzerland at least 30 days prior to the AGM, for vetting and clearance by AIBA.

AIBA regards the make-up of its national federations very seriously and FABA is duty bound to comply.

That’s it for this week.

We’ll bring you more updates on our team over the coming weeks.
