Here’s a handy and affordable cement block home
This three-bedroom, two bath home high up on the hill on an acre overlooks the airstrip and has water views. Established fruit trees consisting of coconut, guava, mango, soursop, rambutan, banana, avocado, pineapple and cassava are on the property and keen gardeners will be delighted with the fertile soil and tropical gardens surrounding the property. There is a spring-fed stream on the property too.
Cement block is the most important feature to mention because in these islands of often wild winds and wood-eating bugs, reinforced cement block is impervious and everlasting. The home was built to endure and last. Electric power and water mains make life easier, and the rain catchment tank serves as a backup.
The home is spacious and the bar separates the kitchen from the living and dining areas. The living room’s heavy wood panelling; the high open ceiling and the custom window that frames the ocean view are part of the ambiance.
Most of the entertaining is on the veranda where you can watch the planes come in and take off and watch all the traffic below on the Hibiscus Highway. Being so high up, you don’t hear the noise.
There is also a separate room which can be used for either a gym, sewing room or an office. The bedroom wing starts out down the hall with the main bathroom and combo laundry room. The bedrooms are left and right down the hallway with a bedroom and en -suite bathroom overlooking the backyard.
The other two bedrooms have views of the sea and with the trade breezes, it is always cool. For those hot humid days there is a miniature waterfall pool pond as they call it; perfect to cool down in with a nice cold drink.
