A car accident in 2016 left Nakeleto Lawakeli, 31, paralysed and bedridden.
Fast-forward to yesterday, and the Cavaga villager of Solevu, Bua was at Nasese to accept his Diploma in Theology after graduating from the Pacific Regional Seminary.
“It has been a long and challenging journey but I have come out of it stronger and I am so relieved and overwhelmed to be able to complete this chapter of my life,” he said.
Despite being bedridden, he was still able to attend his classes virtually and pass his units with the support of family and friends.
“A lot of people had contributed to my graduation financially as well as caring for me, and I would like to thank each and everyone one of them for without their support, I would not be here.”
Mr Lawakeli paid tribute to his parents, who were also on hand to witness their son’s graduation.
“My parents gave up their work to care for me after the accident, as well as my two siblings, so I dedicate my achievement to them. I hope that my journey will inspire others to never to give up on their dreams, no matter what circumstances they may be facing in life.”
A total of 27 students graduated with a Diploma in Theology while nine students graduated with a Bachelor of Divinity.
