FIJIFirst party secretary Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says plans by the National Federation Party to increase the national minimum wage level to $5 is stupid.
Speaking at the FijiFirst party family fun day in Savusavu on Friday evening Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said the exercise would cost Government $700 million, adding this was attempts to lure people and their votes.
He told members of the public in Savusavu that despite this they continued to vote for NFP. “It will cost Government $700 million to increase the national minimum wage level to $5,” he said.
“What stupidity, it’s only being done to lure you (people).”
Responding to the statement NFP leader Professor Biman Prasad labelled the comments as predictable nonsense from someone clutching to straws.
“Here is a man under whose management, there has been millions of dollars of wastage and reckless spending at the expense of the ordinary families in the country,” said Prof Prasad.
“I will respond to him on the manner that he deserves in today’s meeting at the Lautoka manifesto launch this afternoon.”
