Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum has handed his statement in relation to a 1987 bombing incident to the Fiji Police Force Criminal Investigations Department headquarters yesterday.

Police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro confirmed that the statement was in relation to a complaint lodged by Suva resident Veronica Malani.

However, when asked how or where the statement was taken or whether Mr Sayed-Khaiyum personally delivered the statement, Ms Naisoro declined to comment.

When asked the same questions yesterday, Acting Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu referred all comments to Ms Naisoro.

“We have issued our statement on the issue and that is all we are going to comment on,” Ms Naisoro had said.

Earlier, Ms Naisoro confirmed that “The honourable A-G has given his statement to CID this hour and the investigators are now compiling the investigation file before it is sent again to DPP”.

“The statements are in relation to the initial report regarding the 1987 bombing case.”

Meanwhile, Ms Malani, escorted by family members, visited police CID headquarters yesterday to enquire about the lack of updates on her complaint.

She claimed the only updates she was getting was via media reports.
