Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has applauded the efforts by Fiji’s sportsmen and sportswomen in stepping up to the frontline and encouraging the nation during the current COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.
He delivered the accolades last week while handing over two buses to the Fiji Rugby Union.
Despite the hardships and difficulties faced across the nation, Mr Bainimarama commended Fijian athletes in Fiji and abroad for taking the step forward in keeping the nation focused against the pandemic.
“I know how vital sport is for many Fijian businesses, along with the coaches and staff who make a living supporting teams across the country,” Mr Bainimarama said.
“I know how difficult it is for athletes to put their careers on hold and put the income they earn from competing aside.
“But the very nature of the coronavirus crisis has meant that we’ve had to take on this challenge unaided by the gallantry of our sportsmen and sportswomen.”
Mr Bainimarama commended the efforts of Fiji’s sports personalities and the roles they played, whether in the security forces on operational duties, to providing videos on social media platforms providing advice on farming, fitness or even proper hygiene techniques for COVID-19 and called on the nation to rally behind our heroes in these trying times.
“Let’s keep cheering on the heroes on the frontlines of our campaign against COVID-19.”
