NEWLY enlisted personnel of the Third Battalion Fiji Infantry Regiment (3FIR) of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces have been reminded to wear their badge with pride.
Ninety-three newly enlisted personnel were inducted to the 3FIR yesterday after completing vigorous training for the past three months on sustaining national security as part of their training.
RFMF Commander Land Force Colonel Manoa Gadai reminded the newly inducted 3FIR members of the events of 2000 and how some of the members of the regiment gave their lives for the country. “Today is not an easy day,” Col. Gadai said.
“That diamond on your left shoulder is not easy because some of your brothers have died for the military and the 3FIR in this same camp in 2000.
“When you are wearing that badge, remember your brothers and sisters who died in this camp because of poor judgment of one particular soldier.”
In his address, Col. Gadai also commended members of the 3FIR who gave their lives in the 2000 coup.
He said those soldiers stood with the RFMF commander and the RFMF to save the military and the country.
“If you think getting that diamond is easy then might as well take it off. Don’t wear it and don’t enter the 3FIR,” he said.
“The red diamond is a symbol of the RFMF’s ethos and values.”
