FIJI is now part of a global marketplace and Fiji businesses are now trading globally and servicing a wide range of customers – locals and right across the world, says Westpac Bank general manager Kip Hanna.
Westpac and Vodafone Fiji confirmed their support for the 47th annual Fiji Institute of Accountants Congress with a cheque for $86,000 yesterday.
Mr Hanna said the theme for this year’s congress — Prioritising humanity, inspire, empower, innovate — was a very fitting theme.
“It is always wonderful to have overseas speakers join with local accounting elite to debate ideas and help find global solutions to issues affecting the profession in a fast-paced world,” he said.
FIA president Zarin Khan said over the years other than the financial sponsorship, both organisations had also provided other forms of administrative and logistical assistance to FIA. “For the FIA 2018 Congress, FIA had received a total of $93,740 in sponsorship from both Vodafone and Westpac,” he said.
Mr Khan said the congress hosted more than 400 delegates last year and expected more to attend this year. Vodafone Fiji chief operating officer Ronald Prasad said the congress provided a platform for young professionals to voice their ideas.
Mr Prasad said the theme for the congress was a fitting choice as it aligned well with Vodafone as the company was also focused on introducing new technology and improving the existing technology and change the way of doing business.
The congress will be held at the Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort from May 24 to 25 with the President Jioji Konrote as the keynote speaker.
