7s team to showcase talent in Vanuatu

FIJI Airways Fiji 7s team coach Saiasi Fuli wants his players to showcase their best rugby talent in the 2017 Pacific Mini Games (PMG) which starts on December 4 in Port Vila, Vanuatu.

Fuli, a former Fiji 7s rep, said it was important for the players to go through the development path to become better rugby players.

“We have selected our final squad of players who will represent Fiji in the 2017 Pacific Mini Games in Port Vila, Vanuatu next month. The players for the Dubai 7s have departed for Dubai on Wednesday,” he said.

“It is a development pathway for the players who are entering the 7s code.

“It is a good opportunity for them to excel as most of them have been to the Munich 7s, Central Coast 7s and Silicon Valley 7s earlier this year.

“After finalising the team which would represent Fiji in the Dubai 7s, these are the players who would go to the Pacific Mini Games.”

The side has the services of Samu Bale and Batinisavu Uluiyata who have traded their track shoes with rugby boots will add speed to the team.

“There are a lot of focus on the technical aspect of the game and their respective positions,” he added.

“There is a huge demand in terms of delivering 7s rugby in the international competition and even the invitational tournaments are becoming harder so we have to work with them.

“They also need to be physical so they can meet the physical demand of the game.”

The PMG will be held from December 4-15 at Kormon Stadium in Port Vila, Vanuatu.
