78 registered nurses graduate

Update: 1:36PM SEVENTY-eight registered nurses today graduated from the Sangam Institute of Technology’s College of Nursing and Health Care Education with a Bachelors of Nursing Science.

Most of the graduates are former students of the Fiji National University’s School of Nursing who had graduated with diplomas, before the implementation of the Bachelors program.

Academic board chairperson at the college Amraiya Naidu said the one-year course consisted of flexible learning model blended with face-to-face lectures to ensure nurses were able to upskill themselves while also giving them time to continue their nursing roles in their respective health centres and hospitals.

“The first cohort of 67 students graduated in 2015, 91 in 2016 and 114 in 2017, making a total of 272,” Mr Naidu said.

“Yet another achievement of the College was the writing of the new bridging curriculum with the aim of enabling nurses working full time to upgrade their qualification from diploma to degree.”
