700-plus people charged for serious criminal offences

MORE than 700 people were charged for non-sexual violence offences by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) last year.
This was revealed in a statement issued yesterday by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) when releasing the serious crime statistics recorded between January 1 to December 31, 2018.
According to the ODPP, a total of 783 people were charged with a total of 897 separate counts of serious criminal offences as of December 31, 2018.
Seventy-two people charged were under 18 years of age and of the 783 people, 21 were police officers.
Some of the offences include murder, attempted murder, careless driving, aggravated robbery, theft, money laundering, resisting arrest, assault causing bodily harm, possession of illicit drugs, arson and damaging property, to name a few.
