A TOTAL of 64,958 trees have been planted across Fiji since January this year as part of the Ministry of Forestry’s efforts to plant four million trees within the next four years.
In a concerted effort, the Northern Division planted 56,188 trees topping the number of trees planted in the nation under the project.
Addressing students and members of the public at Seaqaqa’s Bulavou District School where the International Day of Forests celebration in the North was held today, Commissioner Northern Jovesa Vocea told students they were never too young to learn about trees.
“Teachers and parents, we need to help connect our children with nature creating consciousness among our future generations,” said Mr Vocea.
The theme for this year’s celebrations is Forests and Education.
