While most sectors in the country were affected by the pandemic, inward remittances was recording around $600 million or so in a year which actually kept Fiji going.

Vodafone Fiji chief operating officer Ronald Prasad highlighted this while speaking at the Top Executive Conference 2021 held at the Sofitel Resort on Denarau Island in Nadi.

“Today, the people that are sending money from overseas, the rugby players, your friends and families that were sending money to you are sending around $250 million worth remittance directly on their phones,” he said.

“So all of these funds and money coming in on the phones, your business needs to be ready and sort of be available in that space so people can transact with you.”

Mr Prasad said businesses needed to take advantage of this new opportunity which had come through.
