6.5 magnitude offshore earthquake hits Lakeba, poses no threat

A 6.5 magnitude offshore earthquake occurred north north-west (38 km) Tubou, Lakeba in the  Lau Group today, however posed no threat to the Fiji region.

According to the Seismology Unit of Fiji’s Mineral Resources Department, the strong earthquake had deep depth source occurred at about 09:25AM local time.
