THE Western Division Agricultural Show in Ba this week will be the first time the event has not been sponsored by a major corporate body.
Principal agricultural officer West Vinesh Kumar said organising the event provided a good learning platform for his staff members.
“Obviously putting together such a large event is not easy and there’s a lot of work involved so we have been very pleased with preparatory work that we have been doing so far,” he said.
“We were given about $50,000 to put this event together and we feel that the show in Ba will be a good one not only for the farmers but also for our department.”
Mr Kumar said the show was organised to coincide with the Digicel Ba Riverside Carnival.
“We anticipate a lot more farmers coming out to the show this year because we believe there’s a lot more farmers in Ba compared to those in Lautoka.
“The show provides a good foundation for farmers, local businesses and the Department of Agriculture to showcase what we have. These are all produce from every sector of agriculture and to have them all in one place makes it a lot easier for farmers to access certain areas that might have been difficult for them on any other day.
“This is one of the reasons why farmers in the Western Division have to take advantage of the show and the opportunities that would be available to them.”
