MORE than 50 children will be surfing in the under 10, under 12 and under 14 boys and girls divisions at this year’s Rip Curl Micro Grommet Series to be held this Saturday at Natadola beach.

Fiji Surfing Association head coach Ian Portingale said this was great way to try a surfing contest because everyone was a winner in a safe surf conditions and a supportive environment.

“The under 10s can have a parent assist them catch waves and everyone’s safe. Come and see the future talent of surfing in Fiji. As a new Olympic sport, we are looking for new talent everywhere so it could be your son or daughter,” Portingale said.

He said there would also be a free family day where the Fiji National Sports Commission would be conducting beach volleyball and beach soccer.

“Vatuvara Eco Resort will conduct environmental activities. Inia Nakalevu will be doing introductory surfing lessons and Wailoaloa Boardriders will be putting on a sausage sizzle,” he said

“So there are heaps to do for everyone on the beach at Natadola. Bring the family and enjoy this amazing family day. The surfing starts at 10am whilst the free family day kicks off at 11am.”

The surfing contest is sponsored by Rip Curl, Jacks, Hot Bread Kitchen, McDonalds, Fiji National Sports Commission, Vatuvara Eco Resort and Wailoaloa Boardriders.
