A 5.8 magnitude earthquake was recorded in the Vanua Balavu region this morning.

The seismic activity that occurred at 7.02am was recorded  152 km SouthEast of Tuvuca, Vanua Balavu, Islands, 370 km NorthWest from Vava’u, Tonga and 438 km North NorthEast from Suva, Fiji.

The Seismology Unit of the Mineral Resources department stated that the earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10km at Tuvuca , Vanua Balavu and does not pose any immediate tsunami threat to the region.
