A 5.7 MAGNITUDE earthquake was recorded in the Yasawa region this morning.

According to the Seismology Unit of the Mineral Resources department, the tremor occurred at 7.36am.

The seismic activity was recorded at 371km West-Northwest from Viwa Island, Yasawa; 440km Northwest from Lautoka; and 557km Northwest from Suva.

The earthquake occurred at a depth of 10km.

The department stated that the moderate activity occurred at a shallow depth, and did not pose any immediate tsunami threat to the region.
