5.0 magnitude earthquake recorded in Yasawa region

A 5.0 magnitude earthquake was recorded in the Yasawa region this afternoon.

The seismic activity that occurred at 3.42pm was recorded  16 km West from Yasawa-i-rara, Yasawa Islands, 118 km North from Ba Town, 209 km West SouthWest from Labasa and 192 km NorthWest from Suva.

The Seismology Unit of the Mineral Resources department stated that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 16km West from Yasawa-i-rara, Yasawa Islands and it did not pose any immediate tsunami threat to the region.

This event was felt in some parts in the Western region of Viti Levu.

The minor tremor lasted for at least 2-3 seconds.
