FORTY-eight members of the Fiji Bus Operators Association are meeting the Fiji Competition and Consumer Commission to discuss the need for a bus fare increase.
Association president Richard Lal said it had been 10 years now since they had a bus increase.
“We have been meeting with bus operators and we are in desperate need for a bus fare increase. The bus services operators need to cover their expenses, at the same time pay their workers,” Mr Lal said.
Meanwhile, the media was barred from attending the meeting.
Nikhil Bus Limited director Deo Shankar said the present bus fares could not cover the expenses of maintaining their bus fleet.
He hoped that an agreement would be made today to assist bus operators.
