The 45 men arrested for their alleged involvement at the Mead Rd Housing brawl in Nabua, Suva earlier this month were granted bail yesterday.

They appeared before Chief Magistrate Usaia Ratuvili during a special court sitting at the Fiji Police Academy in Nasova, Suva yesterday.

The men were separately charged with one count each of unlawful procession, malicious acts, disobedience of lawful order, throwing stones and criminal intimidation.

Out of the 45 applicants, Mr Ratuvili said only accused Sekove Serukalou, Semi Navonu and Semi Davui had pending proceedings in court and all others enjoyed the statutory presumption in favour of bail.

He said there was no evidence of previous convictions for escaping from lawful custody, breach of bail or for absconding bail, and that none of the five applicants had a history of non-compliance with lawful orders.

Mr Ratuvili said as part of their bail conditions they are not to set foot in the Mead Rd Housing flats for any reason whatsoever.
