The Minister for Forests Osea Naqamu recently chaired a joint meeting amongst pine industry stakeholders.

Fiji Pine Limited said in a statement important discussion took place on getting all agencies to work together to support the pine industry.

This was to enable the industry to meet its export commitments and drive much needed economic activity, said the company.

“Protection of Fiji Pines resources (both overplanted areas and illegal logging) was one of the key agenda items.”

“We were given commitment by the Department of Police that checks on logging trucks will be at another level from now with much stricter measures on any noncompliance.”

Pine Group said it will work with the Ministry and iTaukei Land Trust Board to get all overplanted pine resources through dialogue with the landowners.

The company said pine industry has “many sustained returns.”
