A total of 4382 teachers qualify for the rural location allowance.
And of that, some 4242 teachers have been paid their allowance, Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro said in parliament.
And he said that work continued for the other 140 remaining teachers because the human resources unit had to ensure all due processes and procedures were followed.
Mr Radrodro said teachers serving in eligible rural and maritime schools would receive payment of location allowance on termly basis.
The Minister also noted that 131 teachers had upgraded their qualifications with diploma and bachelor’s degree in ECE, primary and secondary education.
He said as of August 31 this year, a total of $338,031.74 had been paid out to those eligible teachers and the remaining would have their salary upgraded once they submitted relevant documents to HR.
He also assured teachers that the location allowance and salary upgrade for eligible teachers should be completed by end of term 3 this year.
The Ministry of Education received an allocation of $8.9m in the announced 2023-2024 budget.
