4.8 magnitude earthquake recorded in Vanua Levu region

A 4.8 magnitude earthquake with a depth of 10km occurred near Labasa, Vanua Levu this morning.

According to the Mineral Resources Department the light earthquake which occurred around 9:13am  with shallow depth source location occurred 163 km NW of Labasa.

Felt reports were received from coastal settlement in Saolo Village, Wainunu, Bua.

The MRD stated the earthquake occurred  163 km NW of Labasa, 86 km NNE from Yasawa and 236 km NNW from Suva, Fiji.

The department added the earthquake does not pose any immediate tsunami threat to the region.
