35 counts of separate sexual related offences recorded in September

A 61-YEAR-OLD grandfather was charged with multiple counts of rape and sexual assault on four of his granddaughters aged between eight and 11-years-old last month.

This was released in the by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) Rape and Sexual Offences Statistics for September 2018, making the man the oldest accused person for rape and sexual assault related offences during the period.

According to the stats, the man is alleged to have raped and sexually assaulted his 8-year-old, 10-year-old and two 11-year-old granddaughters.

Out of the fifteen people that were charged with a total of 35 counts of separate sexual offences in September, one was a 15-year-old boy who was charged with the rape of a 14- year-old girl.

The 35 counts included 29 counts of rape, five counts of sexual assault and one count of indecent assault.

The office of the DPP has said out of the 15 victims, 12 of them were under the age of 18 years.

It said that in one incident a 42-year-old man was charged with the rape of his 12-year-old stepdaughter while in another incident a 26-year-old man was charged with the rape of his 15-year-old girlfriend.

There was also an incident where a 53-year-old man was charged with the rape and sexual assault of a 15-year-old male employee.

The office of the DPP said there was also a case where a 55-year-old man was charged with the rape, indecent assault and criminal intimidation of a 20-year-old woman.

It was stated that one matter was withdrawn after the DPP filed a nolle prosequi due to the false complaint from the witness.

There were 8 incidents where the victims and the accused persons were related to one another.
