GOVERNMENT has invested more than $308,000 to electrify a rural Nadi settlement.

The Amgalielectrification project was commissioned yesterday and is expected to benefit 26 households, totalling 117 residents of the settlement.

Officiating at the launch, Minister for Infrastructure Jone Usamate said residents had been deprived of electricity for far too long.

“However, through the commitment of this Government to leave no Fijian behind, you and your children will now have the opportunity to enjoy and share the benefits of this important infrastructure,” he said.

Mr Usamate said Government had invested significantly in its rural electrification program, with more than $224 million being invested over the past five years.

He said 70 per cent of this allocation was for rural electrification. About 25,165 households have benefited from the program so far.
