The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has issued 3061 traffic infringement notices for non-conformity of headlamps.

LTA acting CEO Irimaia Rokosawa mentioned this in an interview with The Fiji Times online platform The Lens @177.

These headlamps, he said, included those that gave extra glare and not functioning.

“We also have our clauses within the Act to impound vehicles. Those are very drastic measures that we can take,” he said.

“We also humbly request the assistance of every Fijian out there, so those 3061 are the ones that have been intercepted by the police or LTA but there are others that are running around there. We need Fijians to speak out in and report these to LTA so that we can come down hard on them.”

Mr Rokosawa also said there were new variations of headlights being introduced in the market.

To curb this, LTA is working with the Fiji Revenue and Customs Authority to see how best this could be controlled from the ports of entry, and have this market regulated.

“For example: tints. We have done bookings, they have taken it off, but in the next two weeks you see them putting it all together.

“We are working closely with our stakeholders to see how best we can have, probably a panel of suppliers. But then again, if that has to happen, we need to control other players with the market.

“At times we wanted to regulate the market, but the customers still had a choice, whether to go to the one that is on the list of accredited suppliers or those who aren’t.”
