3,030m of skyrunning in Piedmont

Athletes faced the gruelling Red Bull K3 race in Susa, Italy, on July 28. With 3,030m climbed, the competition is the equivalent to running up 1,000 staircases or careering up 10 Eiffel Towers stacked on top of each other.
The adventure race begins in the picturesque Piazza Savoia in Susa in the Italian region of Piedmont.
In distance terms, the run seems straightforward enough at just 9.7 kilometres but, over the course of the ensuing hours, competitors then have to climb a total of 3,030 metres to get to the summit of the 3,538m Rocciamelone mountain.
To get there, lying in wait are fluctuations of terrain from grass to loose debris with picturesque scenery surrounding those in the race at all times.
Similar to Red Bull 400, the challenge leaves competitors with their lungs bursting and calf muscles screaming.
