A three-way race to be crowned the 2022 Digicel Premier League champion will be decided this weekend after the final round of competition.

Lautoka, second-placed Rewa and Suva are all in the hunt for the league crown.

Lautoka leads the DPL table with 32 points and has a better goal difference over Rewa which also has 32 points.

The Capital City side sits in third place with 29 points.

This weekend, Rewa will face Suva at the Uprising Sports Centre in Pacific Harbour at 7pm tomorrow and then takes on Lautoka on Sunday.

The Delta Tigers need to earn two points from both matches to win its first-ever national league title.

A draw in both matches will be enough.

After playing Rewa, Suva faces Nadroga on Sunday.

Suva needs to win both matches to win the title while Lautoka will need to beat Rewa and hope results from Suva’s matches go its way to defend the title.

In other DPL matches, Tailevu Naitasiri will host Labasa at the Uprising Sports Centre on Sunday at 1pm while Navua will travel to Prince Charles Park to face Nadi at 3pm.

Fiji Football Association CEO Mohammed Yusuf says the DPL winner will not only be decided this weekend but also Fiji’s two top nominees for the 2023 Oceania Football Confederations (OFC) Champions League.

Yusuf said the national squad members in camp preparing for the upcoming Melanesia Spearhead Group Prime Ministers Cup 2022 in Vanuatu would be released to the district teams on Friday.

He said the players return to camp after the DPL games on Sunday before flying out to Port Vila on Wednesday.

“The DPL winner will receive $18,000 prizemoney,” Yusuf said.

“The runner-up will get $6000.”

The last time there was a tight race for the DPL title was back in 2020 when Suva and Rewa finished tied at the top of the table with 27 points each. Suva took out the title edging Rewa on goal differential.
