3 in custody over death

A 28-YEAR-old labourer of Lakena in Nausori is dead after an alleged brawl in Nausori last Saturday night.

And the Fiji Police Force is pleading to the members of the public who consume alcohol to drink responsibly.

The man was allegedly assaulted by three men after a night out at a club.

Assistant Commissioner of Police and chief of intelligence and investigations Henry Brown said the three men were in police custody pending further investigations.

“The incident occurred at about 2300hrs and the victim was taken to the Nausori Health Centre before he was transferred to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital where he unfortunately succumbed to injuries sustained during the assault,” Mr Brown said.

“This is another liqour-related death and we are again pleading with people to drink responsibly as the over indulgence of alcohol can lead to tragic circumstances,” Mr Brown said.

“A few hours of enjoyment can turn in to a life- time of regret and this is why it is essential for everyone to take this issue seriously.”
