Kadavu Island currently has 284 active cases of COVID-19.

Health Ministry permanent secretary Dr James Fong said these active cases were part of Fiji’s 13,597 active cases.

He said 240 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded on Wednesday.

Of theses cases, 49 were from the Western Division, 32 from the Central Division and 159 from the Eastern Division. Dr Fong said there were 159 new COVID-19 positive cases on Kadavu and four new cases on Malolo Island.

“All these individuals have been isolated,” he said.

“There have been 48,323 cases during the outbreak that started in April 2021. We have recorded a total of 48,393 cases in Fiji since the first case was reported in March 2020, with 33,915 recoveries.”

Dr Fong said as of September 7, as many as 568,676 adults in Fiji had received their first dose of the vaccine and 308,258 their second doses.

He said this meant that 96.9 per cent of the target population has received at least one dose and 52.9 per cent were now fully vaccinated nationwide.
