RURAL women have the resources to develop your talents and contribute to your family’s income.

Speaker of Parliament, Dr Jiko Luveni stressed this while officiating at the 4th National Women’s Expo at the FMF Gymnasium in Suva this morning.

Dr Luveni said the National Women’s Expo recognizes the tremendous capabilities and the potential that lies with the women.

Meanwhile Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Mereseini Vuniwaqa said it was an area to empower Fijian women as entrepreneurs and enhance their economic participation.

“The Government promotes women’s economic empowerment, especially that of our rural women in recognition of the fact that women are central to the national development,” Ms Vuniwaqa said.

“We know that investing in women’s economic empowerment sets a direct path towards gender equality, poverty eradication and inclusive economic growth, and therefore, we are adamant to create that equitable environment that our women need.”

Ms Vuniwaqa acknowledged Dr Luveni for her passion which brought together 1500 participants at the first National Women’s Expo in 2014.
