A FORMER Ba and national midfielder Vimlesh Singh was honoured by the Fiji Football Association management after he was awarded the Legends Medal at the Fiji Football Academy in Vatuwaqa.

“His contribution and commitment for football is so much as a player, and also a coach,” said Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel.

“We are proud we are giving something back to him.”

Singh, who is the elder brother to the late Billy Singh – coach of the legendary 1988 team that defeated Australia, was a prime footballer in the late 1970’s always known for his alertness in setting up the game play.

“He was one of the most intelligent midfielders Fiji has ever produced, and was smart in every way on the field,” Patel said.

Singh made history playing for Ba, winning consecutive back to back Inter District Championship titles starting in 1975.

Singh, who now resides in Auckland and flew in for the event, said he was honoured by the event.

“It is good to know that we are rewarded for our commitment to football and this is something all the players would be looking to, because that shows we are unforgotten,” Singh said.
