PREPARATIONS for this year’s Kula Awards are progressing well and Film Fiji is working closely with schools and sponsors. Film Fiji chief executive officer Dallas Foon said training for students were underway and they were looking forward to a successful event.

“This year, there are 43 schools participating compared to 31 last year. Participation has increased in all three competitions, with 31 schools registered in art, 37 in film and 20 in the dance competition,” Mr Foon said.

“The important thing is that schools in outer areas are taking part with four schools from Vanua Levu (Labasa SKM College, Uluivalili College, Saqani High School and Dreketi Central College).

“Two from Taveuni (Bucalevu High School and Niusawa Secondary School) and one school each from Kadavu (Vunisea Secondary School) and Gau (Gau Secondary School).”

He said 43 schools would be taking part in the film, art and dance categories.

“Film Fiji acknowledges its naming rights sponsors, Fiji Airways, Fiji Link and the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism, and the continued support of the Ministry of Education, participating schools and associate sponsors,” he said.

He said awards would feature prominently on Film Fiji’s social media platforms with uploads of school visits, film entries and live coverage of the two events.

The awards will be held in July.
