$20m damage bill

REHABILITATION of sugar farms remains a prime focus of the Fiji Sugar Corporation (FSC) Ltd after the industry copped a $F20million damage bill from flood events associated with Tropical Cyclones Josie and Keni last month.
The estimated $F20m involves the total cost of damage within the sugar industry, including infrastructure such as cane access roads, crossings, culverts et cetera.
FSC chief executive Graham Clark said that prior to the flooding, FSC’s agriculture services team had engaged with the grower community and focused on increasing sugarcane planting.
This has since shifted towards flood rehabilitation work with growers.
