Vodafone Deans Trophy tournament director Navitalai Waiwalu labelled Queen Victoria School as the team to watch out for in the under-18 semi-finals of the competition next Saturday.

QVS put on a clinical display of schoolboys’ rugby after they beat Nasinu 23-7.

The boys from Matavatucou are joined by defending champions Marist Brother High School which beat Ratu Kadavulevu School 23-18, Natabua High School which pipped Lelean Memorial School 13-12, and Suva Grammar School which held off Cuvu College 16-11.

After a successful quarter-final at the HFC Bank Stadium, Waiwalu said the level of competition at the Vodafone Deans Trophy had increased significantly.

“I would say that the competition in the national quarter-finals for this year has increased so much, in comparison to previous years,” Waiwalu said.

“But for me personally, I think the team to watch out for in the U-18 semis next Saturday will be QVS. This is because their performance has been increasing since the beginning of the competition in each respective zone.

“Just look at how competitive the games were today, and you can now expect how tough it will be come Saturday.

“Natabua High School also played very well, and so did Marist Brothers High School in the under-18 grade.”

Waiwalu is encouraging spectators and fans to purchase their tickets for the semi-finals as they are expecting a sellout.

For the under-18 semis, Queen Victoria School will be playing Southern Zone runners-up Suva Grammar School while the boys from Flagstaff will face west-siders, Natabua.
