The People’s Alliance (PA) government will make sure the people’s voices are first heard before any decisions are made.

And it would review all current laws and decrees that were hastily passed by the government, including the distribution of lease monies under the Equal Rent Distribution Policy.

Suva lawyer and PA candidate Filimoni Vosarogo said this while responding to a question during a campaign event at Veikoba, Valelevu, on Wednesday evening.

“When they were distributing lease money before we heard that most of the money was only going to the chiefs and the leftovers had to be shared amongst the mataqali members,” Dina explained at the campaign event.

“The current government has changed this and brought in the equal distribution of lease monies amongst all mataqali members including the chief.

“But if your party will make the next government, what will be the party’s stance on this?”

Mr Vosarogo said a PA government will have consultations with the people and take into account their views on such issues.

“This law regarding the equal distribution (of lease monies) was put out as a decree, there were no consultations, just the decision made by the government to bring about the equal distribution of lease which has been in effect from then till now. The idea of having a consultation is to find out what the people really think.

“That’s important so what a People’s Alliance government will do is that it will always refer back to the people.”

Mr Vosarogo said the current government has come up with unreasonable laws and decrees that only made life harder for the people.

“The requirements they come up with making it difficult for the qoliqoli owner and land owners to access things that should have been made easy for them, all that will be abolished.

“It is the duty of the government to make life easier for its citizens, if it’s making life harder for the people then the government is not serving us properly.

“When our party manifestos are distributed out to the community, that’s when you will see that everything they had passed as a law in the past 16 years will all be reviewed.”
