THE People’s Alliance party leader Sitiveni Rabuka says they will formally inform President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere that they are now a “workable coalition ready to form the new government”.

He said this during a joint news conference with National Federation Party Professor Biman Prasad and SODELPA management board members.

“We are sending a message out to the Government House, State House to His Excellency the President informing him that we now have a workable coalition to run the government of Fiji over the next four years,” Mr Rabuka said.

“We thank the people of Fiji, we thank the Electoral Commission, although we had some difficulties with them in the beginning of this election and we thank them all. It’s always a thankless task.

“And they had expected opposition and complaints from us. But now that’s all over, I’m sure we can all work together, form the government and tell the people of Fiji that they can have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Mr Rabuka also thanked his supporters.

“Today they concluded the meeting and invited the party that I lead, the People’s Alliance party as well as the FijiFirst party to come and make presentations to them.

“We then considered the areas of commonality in our views about the new government that we would be forming.

“Today they finalised their decision to come along with the National Federation Party and People’s Alliance party coalition.

“I’d like to thank them very much for giving us this honour in forming the next government of Fiji, a government we hope will bring the change that people had called out for over the years, they’ve been calling out for over the years.

“It might be an enormous task. It will not be easy.”
