The last nine hours starting at 7.30am today going into the final hour now has been the most critical time in the 2022 General Election.

In his media update at 5pm, Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem said there is a huge push in the last one hour for people to go and vote.

“When the clock hits 6 o’clock, the presiding officer will tell the assistant presiding officer to go and stand after the last person who is in the queue at 6 o’clock, and there after anybody who turns up to the polling station will simply be asked to go back,” Mr Saneem said.

“The polling stations in Fiji have been opened for the last nine and a half hours and every Fijian has had sufficient time to vote,” he said.

“We need as many Fijians to come out and vote as possible because this is your election.

“This is your opportunity to vote and this is your right that you are going to exercise.

“The turnout is still 300,011 people that have voted on Election Day alone and that is roughly 51 percent.”

The voting for the 2022 General Election closes at 6pm today, December 14, 2022.
