Fijian Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka says he has given time to the previous government to clear office.

Speaking to the media outside Parliament yesterday, he said he had no immediate plans.

“At the moment, I am allowing the former government ministers to clear out and farewell their staff,” Mr Rabuka said.

“We don’t want to rush into anything because we want them to have a comfortable move-out and farewell their staff.

“We will go enjoy Christmas and then we will move in.”

He said his Christmas message to people was “democracy works”.

“Our system works and we just have to build on what the previous has done.

“We appreciate what they have done, but some could have been made better.

“We have to get in there first and see what they have done and what is left for us to complete and we have six months to the last budget to run.

“I am deeply humbled to be appointed as PM, it’s a big burden of service, but we will deliver.”
