Democracy in Fiji is now well-established, says newly-sworn in Deputy Prime Minister and Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Viliame Gavoka.

He said this in response to questions from this paper regarding the outcome of yesterday’s secret ballot voting in Parliament.

“This was done above Board and after all this, we are all proud of the way we govern ourselves, this is a good example that we should emulate going forward,” Mr Gavoka said.

“I think we are maturing as a country.

“Democracy in Fiji is now well established and the change of government in this manner today indicates that we are truly on the way to be a country that we can all be proud of, and shedding our history which has been a bit chequered over the last couple of years.”

Mr Gavoka said yesterday was a proud day for everybody.
