A call has been made by four political parties for the immediate stop in the tallying of votes for the 2022 General Election.

In a joint press conference with some other party leaders this afternoon, The People Alliance Party leader Sitiveni Rabuka said: “We now call for an immediate halt in the tallying of votes until an urgent forensic audit of the elections system is conducted.”

Mr Rabuka said the leaders had put the Electoral Commission on notice and they were seriously considering non-compliance.

“We will soon have joint public meetings to share our thoughts with the voters who voted us in on what is transpiring,” Mr Rabuka said.

He said they had also called the Fijian Elections Office (FEO) to recount all the votes within the full protocol results made available.

“At the present time, ballots are being counted at the arena and are not made available contrary to the protocols of the time of the various polling venues as counted last night,” Mr Rabuka said.

“The leaders stated that the serious problem with the anomalies or glitches in the election system at last evening – 14th of December – called into serious question the integrity of the whole entire system.

“The leaders pointed out the abrupt stop of the announcement of the provisional stats results after the second update at 10.15pm when an Opposition party candidate was leading the count with approximately 15,000 votes.

“The Supervisor of Elections subsequently reduced the votes of the leading candidate from 15,000 to 63.”

Present at the joint press conference were National Federation Party leader Professor Biman Prasad, Fiji Labour Party leader Mahendra Chaudhry, and Unity Fiji Party leader Savenaca Narube.
