The People’s Alliance leader Sitiveni Rabuka says FijiFirst leader Voreqe Bainimarama shot himself in the foot by labelling as macawa (useless) his plan to remove all permanent secretaries and CEOs should the PA-National Federation Party form government.

“What happened to Fiji Bureau of Statistics CEO Kemueli Naiqama, what happened to those permanent secretaries that they removed?” Mr Rabuka said.

“Removing permanent secretaries when a new government comes in is normal in most governments.

“Their appointments are coterminous with the appointing authority and we must accept that.”

Speaking at a FijiFirst Party rally in Navua recently, Mr Bainimarama said if the permanent secretaries and CEOs were all terminated, “their replacements would be the ones that do not deserve the position” and macawa (useless) people who are not picked on merit”.
