2022 Fiji Elections: Party attacks opposition to ‘avoid tough questions’

MEMBERS of the FijiFirst party continually attack Opposition party leaders, including Professor Biman Prasad and Sitiveni Rabuka, so they can avoid the tough questions on the governance and running of the country.

National Federation Party (NFP) general secretary Leba Seni Nabou said this while speaking during a talanoa session at Jagindra Singh Primary School in Tamavua, Suva, recently. She said a lot of the diatribe shared by members of the ruling party was not the calming discourse the nation needed.

“So you’ll see a lot of the stuff that they’re doing and a lot of the words that they’re saying are quite graphic, you know, bloodshed, riots, instability,” she said.

“These are not calming words that the nation needs right now, are they? You know they attack everybody, attack party leader, attack Mr Rabuka, attack the party leader’s wife, all so that they don’t have to tell you how they’ve been using your money.

“What have they been doing over the past four years if you can’t get water going?”

She said residents in the area still faced chronic water issues.

“What are you paying your taxes for?

“Now, you ask yourself when you go and vote on December 14, after all the taxes, all of us, we are facing and struggling with the high cost of living. So all your taxes all this time, is this what you’re worth?

“You can’t even get water to your taps. You go to the hospitals, the health centres, it’s all falling apart.

“This is absolutely not what your vote is worth.

“So I know we don’t have to convince you because you can feel everything in your pockets.

“The women most of all will feel it because they’re the ones who are having to stretch the dollar.

“It’s not going very far.”
