FIJIFFIRST party leader Voreqe Bainimarama said some Cakaudrove people voted for Sitiveni Rabuka in the last election simply because they were related – even though he has not done anything for them.

Speaking at a FijiFirst rally in Savusavu yesterday, Mr Bainimarama urged the people to vote for a leader who brought changes, not because of blood ties.

“I know you people chose him (Mr Rabuka) because you people are related,” he said.

“Don’t do this. I told some people from Tailevu that I met in the market in Nausori who told me they’ll choose me because they want progress for our nation.

“But don’t vote for me only because I’m from Tailevu.” FijiFirst general secretary Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said The People’s Alliance has made it known it would assist the University of the South Pacific.

“They are saying that because they want the votes from USP and those in USP are eligible to vote, compared to the primary and secondary school students who are underage and cannot vote, the PAP has not mentioned anything about free school fees.”
