Education Minister Premila Kumar said 202 teachers had tested positive for COVID-19.

Mrs Kumar said the teachers were already COVID-positive before they entered the school premises.

“As of today, we are in the third week and students only went to school on January 4 and they were there for five days and so this is the third week and we’ve got 202 teachers with COVID-positive,” she said.

“And we have primary school teachers who are COVID-positive as well as early childhood education (ECE) teachers who are COVID-positive. It indicates that the teachers were positive when they entered the school environment,” she added.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete also said the teachers must have contracted the virus from the community
