FIJI is expected to come to a standstill this afternoon when the Flying Fijians play Australia in our first Rugby World cup match.
When Dominiko Waqaniburotu leads the team to the ground at Sapporo Dome in Japan, Fijians at home and all over the globe will be glued in with support and watch them in action.
The excitement and the hype had been building up for weeks and yesterday, Fijians living along the Suva-Nausori corridor were dressed in their Fiji jerseys in support of the team.
On one of the main streets of Suva, Joseva Waqakalou cashed in on the RWC by selling miniature Fiji flags.
He said he supported the team by carrying Fiji’s flags around the Capital City.
“Go Fiji go,” he yelled out as he looked for customers.
“I know Fiji will do well.”
The sale of Fiji Rugby merchandise, especially Tee-shirts and sarongs sold like hotcakes.
Harrisons Fiji’s Damodar City outlet manager Mukesh Raniga said his love for Fiji and its rugby saw him promoting the sales of Fiji rugby merchandise to support the Flying Fijians.
The outlet was decorated with Fiji flags and had loads of blue Fiji rugby Tee-shirts, sarongs, flags and Flying Fijians jerseys.
“Let’s support our boys by wearing blue tomorrow (today) and cheer them. Customers have been pouring in to buy merchandises.”
Fiji is expected to come to a standstill this afternoon as Fijians stay glued to the television screen wherever possible to watch our boys play the Wallabies at 4.45pm.
Outdoor screening of the match had been planned for Churchill Park in Lautoka, Damodar City car park Suva and other public places.
