FIJIAN weightlifter Timothy Vakuruivalu scored 260 points in the men’s 81kg B division during the IWF Junior World championship.

He had a good lift in the 120 snatch category but unfortunately lost out in the 145kg in the clean and jerk category.

The Kadavu lad said he had butterflies when he was about to compete.

“I was really nervous getting on that stage and lifting in front of those people but I am grateful to the support shown while lifting,” Vakuruivalu said.

“I was pressured when Nauru Marcincy Cook was lifting weights close to mine but that didn’t affect me as I continued to lift.”

In the men’s 81kg A division, 2018 Junior world champion Ritvars Suharevs won gold scoring 351 points.

Suharevs had a 156kg lift in the snatch and 195kg in the clean and jerk.

He won a silver medal in the 2016-2017 European Junior champions in the 77kg and silver in the 2015 world youth championship in the 69kg.

In the 2013-2016 European Youth championship, he won a gold medal and in 2018 he won another gold medal in the junior championship.

In second place is Felipe Solis of Colombia with 350 points and Hossein Soltani of Iran settled in for bronze.
